Debbi Fields was one of the first girls hired (at the age of 13) in Oakland as a "ball girl" a term they used for the girls that teams hired to throw shag balls in the foul area.  Later, as an entrepreneur, she, with the help of her husband, Randy Fields, operated the business of Mrs. Fields Cookies.  After they divorced in 1996, she then married Michael Rose in 1998.   Shows she has appeared on include "Vicki!," "The New Hollywood Squares," and "Frazier."

The infamous singing duo, Sonny and Cher in 1965

Source: Pinterest

A husband and wife singing sensation, Sonny and Cher recorded "I Got You Babe" in 1965.  They also made their first television appearance on American Bandstand in 1965.  American Bandstand, hosted by Dick Clark, was a platform for many artists to perform while teenagers (that got chosen to be on the show) would dance.  What started out as beautiful, singing love songs to each other on stage with "I Got You Babe" turned nasty by the 1970s.   When Sonny and Cher first met, she was only 16 years old and he was 27.  Despite their popularity and success, they ended up in a very nasty (and public) divorce in 1975.

"Jungle" Pam Hardy -- 1973

Source: Reddit

Pamela Hardy became Jim Liberman's sidekick on the drag racing "Funny Car" circuit when she was 18 years old.  It was a "spur of the moment" decision on the day she met him and his Corvette.  She was just walking down the street and he drove by in his Corvette, turned around and came back.  She hopped in the car and went home with him, was intrigued by all the cars and atmosphere of drag racing and he hired her -- that was it!  Unfortunately, after just a few years, ironically, he was killed -- not on the drag strip -- but in a road accident hitting head-on with a bus.

Frank Zappa and his parents in 1970

Source: Pinterest

In this picture, Frank Zappa is enjoying some family time with his parents in this deep purple living room.  Somebody definitely loved the color purple.  As a musician, Frank Zappa played a variety of classical, jazz, pop, and rock music.  Unlike most rock stars, he was against using drugs after a few times of using marijuana.  He was a big advocate of freedom of speech and he expressed some of his views in his music.  Some of his recordings with his group "Mothers of Invention" include: Who are the Brain Police?; Valley Girl; Stairway to Heaven; I Don't Wanna Get Drafted.

Farrah Fawcett was the '70s golden girl!

Source: Reddit

Do blondes really have more fun?  That all depends upon where life takes you.  If you have the looks like Farrah Fawcett did, you can go places -- at least for a while.  She became quite popular, starring in the popular show "Charlie's Angels" and being married to Lee Majors was also a plus, who starred in "The Six Million Dollar Man."  Just six years later, though, she and Lee divorced and tired of being considered a "sex symbol," she left "Charlie's Angels" and starred in "The Burning Bed," which was a more serious role.  Sadly, at the age of 62, she died of cancer but standing by her side was Ryan O'Neal, who she had been with for the better part of 29 years.

New York "Cabbie" -- Robert De Niro's taxicab driver's license, 1976

Talk about getting into character!  Robert De Niro actually became a real cab driver in New York City in order to better play his role as a cab driver in the movie "Taxi Driver."  The movie was about a Vietnam vet who had a problem with insomnia so he became a cab driver at night.  This was not the only time he has "gotten into character" for an upcoming movie.  For the movie "Raging Bull," he trained with Joe Pesci beforehand and for the movie "Cape Fear," he went through a complete transformation, building up at the gym, getting tattoos, and even having his teeth ground down.

Elvis Presley and "soul-mate?" Ann-Margret - 'Viva Las Vegas', 1964

Source: Pinterest

One of the best movies that Elvis Presley starred in was with Ann-Margret in "Viva Las Vegas."  They worked so well together in the movie that she practically stole the show from him.  Even, off the camera, they apparently worked well together as she stated he was her "soul-mate."  In the movie, he is a race-car driver who, after getting pushed into the pool and losing his engine, has to work as a waiter at the hotel, where his co-star (Ann-Margret) is working -- which is where the romance starts (in the movie).

Sally Field in promotional shoot for "Smokey and the Bandit" (1977)

Source: Pinterest

A popular movie in 1977, "Smokey and the Bandit," was filled with action, romance and excitement.  It was the first in a series of three but, by far, much better than the sequels that came later.  With the magnetism between Sally Field and Burt Reynolds, along with high speeds throughout the movie, you can't beat it.  The two actually dated for five years after the movie.  And don't forget about Jackie Gleason and Jerry Reed to keep the laughs going.  Fast, fun, and furious to beat the clock ahead of their competition!

Alexandra Bastedo, a British actress, in the series "The Champions"

Fun-filled movie "Beach Party" (1960s) with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon

Source: Reddit

Beach movies usually pretty much had the same themes and storylines but were always fun and entertaining.  The movie "Beach Party" was no exception, filled with music and dancing, partying on the beach, bikinis everywhere, and surfing.  Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon, the two main characters in this movie, as well as many others, were always seen as being head over heels in love with each other and dedicated to each other.  It's also interesting to note that Annette Funicello, unlike the other girls in the movies, always dressed in the most modest bathing suits.

One night in 1989 -- What's the scoop? Christina Applegate and Brad Pitt at the MTV Movie Awards

Source: Pinterest

Known as one of the hottest actors there is, Brad Pitt was actually dumped by Christina Applegate one night when they went on an "official date" to the MTV movie awards in 1989.  They had been friends for a while but never went on a date before until that night.  Then, for whatever reason, Christina apparently sees someone else who attracts her eye and she ends up leaving with him rather than Brad.  Ever since that night, Hollywood has been trying to get the "scoop" on the other guy.  In a 2016 article, Sebastian Bach claims he was the other guy.  Only the two of them know for sure as Christina is not talking.

"Blonde" Brigitte Bardot -- 1950s

Source: Reddit

Considered to be one of the "most beautiful women in the world," Brigitte Bardot was just a teenager when she rose to fame.  Making her appearance in 1952, she got Hollywood's attention, being a dark-haired French girl at the time.  Later, in 1956, she decided to become a blonde -- bleaching her hair to become a blonde bombshell!  Do blondes really have more fun?  This blonde bombshell, for her 40th birthday, was portrayed in a nude photo shoot for Playboy magazine.  Ironically, later in life, she developed breast cancer although she did survive it.

Martial arts expert, Bruce Lee in "Enter The Dragon" 1973

Source: Reddit

Bruce Lee, a martial arts expert, plays his part well as he delivers to his audience incredible moves in this 1973 movie "Enter the Dragon."  His moves are so quick that your eyes cannot even follow all the action.  It is quite interesting to note that the way they produced the sound effects of the blows was by snapping used chicken bones up close to a microphone.  Jackie Chan was also featured in this movie, as Lee's opponent, who dies a most memorable movie death in the cave scene.

Bruce Springsteen in a phone booth, East Camden, NJ, 1978

Source: Pinterest

This phone booth was like Bruce's getaway.  When he was about 17 or 18, he would go there a lot to sit and talk to his girl for hours on the phone (especially during the winter time) because he wanted to avoid going home.  He and his dad used to get into many fights over different things but, in particular, over his long hair.  His dad hated his long hair.  In fact, he hated it so much that one night while Bruce was laid up in bed from a motorcycle accident, he had a barber come in and cut it.  Bruce was so angry that he told him he hated him.

Every Which Way But Loose (1978) -- Clint Eastwood and his "sweet" pet orangutan, Clyde

Source: Reddit

This movie, "Every Which Way But Loose" was one of the funniest movies Clint Eastwood ever starred in, along with Sondra Locke.  A man, his motorcycle, his girl and, of course, his "ape" all make this a hilarious combination of action, laughter and romance.  And don't forget about the mother who always has to have her say in the matter.  If that isn't enough excitement for you, there is a sequel "Any Which Way You Can," that may even be funnier than this one.  Both movies are very entertaining!

Cool couple or are they? Britt Ekland and Peter Sellers in the '60s

Source: Pinterest

Danny, Sandy and Kenickie on the set of "Grease" 1978

Source: Reddit

An all-time favorite, "Grease" was filled with lots of song and dance routines, love and romance, and even action with some drag racing going on.  This movie showed how opposites attract with Danny (John Travolta) and Sandy (Olivia Newton-John), being from two different worlds, can fall in love even though they went through tumultuous ups and downs while working through their differences.  And then there's Kenickie, Danny's sidekick, who's a little clueless and irresponsible, particularly with his girl, as she becomes the talk around the school.

Bewitching Elizabeth Montgomery in the '60s

Source: Pinterest

Very young in this picture, Elizabeth Montgomery became famous for her role in "Bewitched," as a modern-day beautiful witch rather than an old crony witch with the black hat and broomstick.  Her role on "Bewitched" portrayed her as being married to a "mortal," who was constantly trying to "help" her husband with his problems (especially at work) by using her "magic."  He would always forbid her to use her magic -- he wanted her to be a "mortal" wife and usually, the "magic" would backfire anyway.  The show aired from 1962 till 1972.

Helen Mirren performance in Shakespeare's "Troilus and Cressida" -- Royal Shakespeare Theatre (1968)

Source: Reddit

Starting her career off with the Royal Shakespeare Company, "Troilus and Cressida" was Helen Mirren's fourth production with them.  Her role as Cressida was her third Shakespearean lead role.  The character of Cressida begins as a juvenile who is basically a tease to Troilus at first, then is devoted to him, and later rejects him for another.  The scene is during the seventh year of the Trojan War.  There were mixed reviews among the critics.  Basically, they were impressed with Helen's performance but not so enthused about the production itself.  They felt the producer did not really bring out Helen's potential in this one.

Blonde Bombshell, Jayne Mansfield in "The Girl Can't Help It" (1956 comedy)

Source: Reddit

This 1956 musical comedy portrays Jayne Mansfield as the girlfriend of a gangster, who hires a talent agent to turn his girlfriend into a recording star.  There is one small problem -- she doesn't have any talent.  What she does have, though, is her beauty and charm that causes the men to lose control; for example, a milkman's milk begins to boil and a man's glasses crack.  Whether it's because she is a blonde or not, she is naive in her thinking -- all she wants is to get married and be a housewife.

The "Man in Black" Johnny Cash on "The Jimmy Dean Show" (1964)

Source: Reddit

The "Man in Black" Johnny Cash, one of country music's biggest legends, back in his much younger days on the Jimmy Dean Show (yeah, like the sausage), sings "Ring of Fire," and "Understand Your Man."  The Jimmy Dean Show was a weekly variety show that first started out as a half-hour summer show that progressed into an hour-long show on Saturday nights that hosted mostly country singers but also some pop stars like the Everly Brothers.  Other country music legends featured on the show was George Jones and Buck Owens.

"Stripper" Natalie Wood in Gypsy, 1962

Source: Reddit

Natalie Wood, in "Gypsy," starts off as a shy, untalented little girl whose mother is pushing her to become a successful vaudeville entertainer, as well as her sister.  Her sister finally rebels and runs off and elopes while Louise (Natalie) puts up with her mother "for a while," turning from vaudeville to a stripper act in a third-rate burlesque club.  Then, with help from the other strippers, she learns how to portray herself with a "gimmick," which proves to be successful for her as she progresses to bigger stages.  It's then she tells her mother to basically "get lost."  Of course, little is shown in this 1962 movie -- unlike today's movies.

Olivia Newton-John as 'Sandy' in "Grease" (1978)

Source: Pinterest

Starring in one of the most entertaining movies of the 1970s, Olivia Newton-John really puts her talent to work in "Grease."  With her musical talent, she not only sings in this movie but also dances her heart out.  Her and John Travolta are dynamite in this movie, singing and dancing together; while, at the same time, toying with each other's emotions as they fine-tune their relationship in their character roles.  It's a very fun, light-hearted (most of the time) movie!  Recently, on August 15, 2018, the two showed up for the 40th anniversary of Grease at the Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills.

Hollywood's "Golden Couple" Paul Newman and wife, Joanne Woodward in 1965

Unlike most Hollywood couples, Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, broke the mold as they kept their marriage alive and celebrated 50 years of marriage before he passed away in 2008.  Paul reportedly stated, "People stay married because they want to -- not because the doors are locked" and also stated "I have steak at home.  Why should I go for hamburger?"  Very well put.  It's quite unusual for a Hollywood couple to stay married when one or both are thrown into scenes with the opposite sex, especially in close contact or compromising scenes.

A lot of floating "crap" here -- Players at a floating craps table in the Sands Hotel Pool -- Las Vegas, 1954

Source: Reddit

This historic hotel and casino, the Sands Hotel, was located on the Las Vegas strip.  It was very unique with its "floating" crap table in the swimming pool.  How many swimming pools do you see with crap floating in it?  It first opened its doors in 1952 and remained open until 1996, when it was finally demolished.  In the mid-1960s, Howard Hughes bought it and modernized it and built a 500 room tower.  A lot of notable entertainers used to entertain there like Jerry Lewis, the Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra, Sammy Davis Jr., Red Skelton and Dean Martin.

Pretty in pink, Jaclyn Smith, 1976

Starring in her role on the TV series "Charlie's Angels," Jaclyn Smith was the only one of the "angels" that stayed in her role for its entirety, which began in 1976 and lasted until 1981.  Everyone loved her -- girls wanted to look like her and guys wanted to look at her.  Oddly enough, she later started designing her own line of clothing and perfumes in 1985; and, in 2008, she started her own wig collection.  Besides "Charlie's Angels,"  she also played in the movies "Nightkill" and "Deja Vu" and, in more recent years, had roles in the "The District" and "CSI: Crime Investigation."

Karate lesson? Ron Howard (Richie) and Pat Morita (Arnold) -- "Happy Days" (1974)

Source: Reddit

Richie Cunningham (Ron Howard) and Arnold (Pat Morita) were two of the main characters on the TV series "Happy Days."  Happy Days was a show you could watch over and over again and never get tired of.  The characters played their roles well to make you laugh mostly; but, on occasion, would make you cry.  Arnold was the owner of "Arnold's Restaurant" where the gang always hung out.  Richie was always the "level-headed" one; Ralph, the practical joker, Potsi, the talented one (singing); and, of course, Fonzie, the "cool" one everyone followed after or feared.

Elvis Presley and wife, Priscilla, flying off together (late 1960s)

Source: Pinterest

Elvis and Priscilla Presley -- a marriage made in Heaven?  No, not quite.  Elvis met Priscilla in Germany in 1959 when she was only 14 years old.  Later, in 1967, they got married but the marriage only lasted seven years.  Surprising?  No - not really.  While it was every girl's dream to be married to Elvis Presley; in reality, it would have been hard to actually be his wife.  Knowing that every time he left to go to a concert, he would be swamped with screaming girls trying to get at him and every time he played in a movie with all the gorgeous girls that co-starred with him, the green-eyed monster would most definitely come out.

"Dreamland" -- Sophia Loren on a visit to Disneyland in 1963

Born in Rome, Italy and being abandoned by her father, who refused to marry her mother, Sophia Loren is shown here on her first visit to Disneyland.  Ironically, with her own family in the spring of 1963, she spoke of how much she enjoyed the trip with her family and called the place a "dreamland."  Despite never having a relationship with her father or financial security as a child, she became quite successful as an actress and becoming a household name in both Europe and the United States.

The beautiful and sexy Ann-Margret rocked the 1960s!

Source: Reddit

One of the most popular actresses in the 1960s for her sex appeal and charm, Ann-Margret started her career when she was discovered by George Burns.  She appeared in many popular movies like "Bye Bye Birdie," "Viva Las Vegas" with Elvis Presley, "Magic" with Anthony Hopkins and "Grumpy Old Men" with Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau.  In 1963, interestingly, she played an animated version of herself in "The Flintstones."  There was a short break in her career when she suffered a freak accident in 1972 -- she fell 22 feet from a platform onto the stage breaking bones in her face and arm.  Her husband rushed her to surgery by flying her in a stolen plane.

A few of Hell's Angels in England in the 1970s

Source: Pinterest

The Hell's Angels group is a motorcycle "club" that love to ride Harleys among other things (depending on who you ask).  For some, just the name of the group puts them in fear, based on what they have heard about them.  Members of the group deny those claims about them though.  They claim they only ride together taking road trips, organizing social events (fundraisers, etc.) and holding motorcycle rallies.  Rumors about them, though, say they are involved in organized crime like a gang of cut-throats.  All the members of the group wear jackets with the emblem shown in this picture, with the bottom portion being their individual locations.

The cast "gang" of "The Outsiders," 1983

A case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time: Ralph Macchio who plays Johnny Cade (was also the star in "Karate Kid"), after he and one of his gang are attacked by their rival gang members, inadvertently kills one of them.  He and "Ponyboy" (C. Thomas Howell) go on the run to avoid the death penalty in Oklahoma.  A lot of well-known actors in this film make it exciting to watch with Patrick Swayze, Rob Lowe, Matt Dillion and Tom Cruise, just to name a few.

The glamorous Elizabeth Taylor, 1956

Rising to success as an actress in her teenage years, beautiful Elizabeth Taylor starred alongside others like Richard Burton, Paul Newman, and Rock Hudson.   But, in 1956, it was somewhat rocky during her role on "Giant," a drama about a ranching dynasty, along with Rock Hudson and James Dean.  Not only did she and her director butt heads; but then, after the main shooting of the film, James Dean died in a car accident in his Porsche.  He was only 24 years old at the time.  Despite the tragic event, the film itself did very well.

"Electrifying" Jimi Hendrix and his turntable in 1970

Source: Reddit

The "electric" guitarist, Jimi Hendrix, whose record sales soared into the millions, was famous for his literal "smashing" performances as many times, at the end of his concerts, he would literally smash his guitar and/or other instruments.  He recorded songs like "Wild Thing" and "Purple Haze."  As a self-taught musician, he learned the guitar as well as other instruments.  Pictured here, in the year of his untimely death in 1970, it was reported that he died after being found by his girlfriend in her apartment from what is speculated to be an overdose of drugs.  She reportedly said that he had taken nine of her sleeping pills (18 x the recommended dose) on top of the previous night's alcohol consumption and barbiturates.

The McCartney family (on the farm?) in 1976

Source: Reddit

This photo was taken of Paul McCartney and his family while they were on a month break from the "Wings Over the World" tour, which was a series of concerts in Britain, Australia, Europe, United States, and Canada.  Because they loved animals so much, they all became vegetarians.  This was their backyard at their home in London.  It looks like Old MacDonald's Farm.  Besides the animals shown here, they also had horses.  Mary McCartney, who is six in this picture, took after her mother, Linda McCartney, and helped with a campaign in 2009 called "Meat Free Monday" as a way of promoting healthy eating habits.

The daughter of Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh, Jamie Lee Curtis made her debut in 1978 in the horror movie, "Halloween" and went on to play in "The Fog" and "Prom Night" as well as sequels to "Halloween," namely, "Halloween II," "Halloween H2O: 20 Years Later" and "Halloween: Resurrection."   After playing in so many horror movies, she was given the nickname "Scream Queen," even though she doesn't look much like a screamer here.  In later years, she would eventually get away from doing the horror movies.

Pam Grier and Juanita Brown -- 1970s

Source: Reddit

Pam Grier and Juanita Brown were actresses who played in movies like "The Big Bird Cage," "Coffy," "Foxy Brown," "Caged Heat," "Willie Dynamite," and "Sheba, Baby."  The blaxploitation (exploitation of blacks)  movie "Black Starlet" portrays Juanita Brown as "Clara" who is from the housing projects of Gary, Indiana that goes to Hollywood wanting to become famous as a star.  What she gets instead is robbed, betrayed and used.  While working on the movie, "Coffy," Pam Grier had met and fallen in love with Freddie Prinze but just a few years later, in 1977, due to depression and drug issues, shot and killed himself.

An Italian Girl from Tunisia -- Claudia Cardinale

Source: Reddit

In the sixties, Claudia Cardinale became known for her performances in "Girl with a Suitcase," "The Leopard" and especially for her role in "The Pink Panther" in 1963.  She played alongside Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda, and Jason Robards in the Western "Once Upon a Time in the West in 1968.  Very young and early in her career, Claudia got pregnant while involved in a "bad" relationship with a Frenchman.  Trying to keep her pregnancy a secret from the public, she agreed to a seven-year exclusive contract which caused her to be totally under the control of the production company.  Not only was the public kept in the dark about her pregnancy but even her son did not know (as he lived with his grandparents) until some years later when a journalist found out the truth.

Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw -- Lynda Carter and Marjoe Gortner -- 1976

Source: Pinterest

In this movie, Bobbie Jo (Lynda Carter) falls for an outlaw (Marjoe Gortner) and ends up assisting him in crime, robbing banks, stealing cars and running from the law.  Bobbie Jo starts off as a carhop who then hooks up with Lyle Wheeler, who is trying to be like "Billie the Kid," and takes off on this crazy wild adventure.  The movie is filled with a lot of action scenes like car chases, shootouts with the cops and "Dukes of Hazzard" type stunts.  It's a mix of "Smokey and the Bandit" and "Dukes of Hazzard" rolled up into one with fast hot rod cars like Mustangs and Camaros.

Lovely Jamie Lee Curtis -- Late 1970s

Source: Reddit

After playing many roles in horror movies like the Halloween movies, Jamie Lee Curtis began playing in lighter movies like "Trading Places," a comedy with Eddie Murphy that will have you in stitches -- quite a switch from the horror movies -- and "A Fish Called Wanda."  She also played in "True Lies," "Beverly Hills Chihuahua" and "Freaky Friday."  In television, she appeared in "Columbo" and "Anything But Love" --  but before that, she played in "Operation Petticoat" in 1977, which was based off the 1959 movie that her father, Tony Curtis, starred in.

Young and happy -- Sharon Tate in the 1960s

Source: Reddit

Young and beautiful in the prime of her life, Sharon Tate, was taken from this world much too soon.  With only being married for about a year, she was about to become a mother (8 1/2 months along) when four crazy followers of Manson showed up.  In the summer of 1969, it was a horrendous violent attack upon her and others in the house where they lived.  A constant struggle, her sister, Debra Tate, fights to keep the four behind bars every time they come up for parole to prevent this from ever happening again to someone else.
